Boeing and Korean Air have finalised a landmark order for up to 50 widebody aircraft, comprising 20 777-9s, 20 787-10s, and options for 10 additional 787 Dreamliners. This deal represents Korean Air’s largest agreement with Boeing to date and is a major step in the airline’s ongoing integration with Asiana Airlines.
Originally announced as a commitment during the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow, the agreement will be reflected in Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ official Orders and Deliveries listings.
“For over 50 years, Korean Air and Boeing have built a relationship based on trust and mutual growth. Today, we further strengthen our historic relationship with this landmark order,” said Walter Cho, Chairman and CEO of Korean Air and Hanjin Group. “We look forward to continuing our journey with Boeing as our trusted partner in innovation and excellence.”
Following its merger with Asiana Airlines, Korean Air is on track to become one of the world’s largest carriers by capacity. The airline recently unveiled new branding and livery on a 787-10 as it moves towards operating under a unified identity. In line with this transition, the carrier is upgrading its fleet with fuel-efficient widebody aircraft to increase global capacity.
“This record order is the culmination of our more than 50-year partnership with Korean Air and demonstrates the strength of Boeing’s market-leading widebody family,” said Dan Schull, Boeing Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Northeast Asia. “The combination of efficiency and range offered by the 777X and 787 Dreamliner will position Korean Air for long-term success and continued growth.”
