Libya’s first private airline, Buraq Air, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus to acquire 10 A320neo Family aircraft, marking the carrier’s first direct agreement with the European manufacturer and its official entry as an Airbus customer. The MoU was signed at the 2025 Dubai Airshow by Fouzi Almiqalh, General Assembly President of Buraq Air, and Benoît de Saint‑Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President Sales for Commercial Aircraft.
Fouzi Almiqalh said that “this agreement represents a significant step forward for Buraq Air as we continue to modernise our fleet and serve more destinations. The A320neo’s efficiency and flexibility will not only be central to strengthening our core network but will also provide a seamless platform for Medsky Airways, our key strategic partner, to jointly enhance passenger offering across both our carriers.”
Benoît de Saint‑Exupéry added: “We are delighted to welcome Buraq Air as a new Airbus customer of the A320 Family and we thank them for their confidence. This agreement reinforces the A320neo as the aircraft of choice for fleet modernisation and we are dedicated to supporting Buraq’s Air strategic expansion plan.”
The A320neo Family is one of the world’s most popular single‑aisle aircraft programmes, offering at least 20 % fuel savings and CO₂ reductions compared with previous‑generation models — benefits that are increasingly important for carriers pursuing both operational efficiency and sustainability goals.
For Buraq Air, which was founded in 2020 and currently operates a small mixed fleet, the commitment to Airbus marks a major milestone in its development. Introducing modern A320neo jets is expected to help the airline expand its route network more effectively across North Africa and the Middle East, while supporting partner operations with Medsky Airways, a strategic affiliate.
This new Airbus commitment aligns with a broader trend at the 2025 Dubai Airshow of airlines and leasing companies announcing large orders for fuel‑efficient narrow‑body aircraft as they modernise fleets and prepare for anticipated growth in passenger demand.
