Qatar Airways has announced a landmark agreement with Boeing for the purchase of up to 210 widebody aircraft, comprising 160 firm orders and options for an additional 50 jets. The deal includes 130 787 Dreamliners and 30 777-9 aircraft, representing the largest widebody order in Boeing’s history and the most significant fleet expansion for the Qatari carrier.
The signing ceremony, held in Doha, was attended by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg, and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.
“We are happy to announce our agreement with Boeing and our partnership in the largest widebody aircraft order in Boeing’s history and the biggest aircraft order in our history,” said Al-Meer. “This is a critical next step for Qatar Airways on our path as we invest in the cleanest, youngest and most efficient fleet in global aviation.”
The 787 Dreamliner is known for its fuel efficiency, offering a 25% reduction in fuel use compared to previous-generation aircraft. The 777-9, part of Boeing’s 777X family, is the world’s largest twin-engine passenger jet, designed to deliver similar improvements in fuel consumption and emissions.
In conjunction with the aircraft order, Qatar Airways has also signed an agreement with GE Aerospace for more than 400 engines, including 60 GE9X and 260 GEnx engines, to power its new fleet. This represents the largest widebody engine purchase in GE Aerospace’s history.
Boeing estimates that this order will support approximately 400,000 jobs across the United States, highlighting the significant economic impact of the deal.
