Malaysia Aviation Group Orders Up to 60 Boeing 737 MAX Jets

Malaysia Aviation Group strengthens its fleet with an order for up to 60 Boeing 737 MAX jets, aiming for increased efficiency and premium passenger experience.

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has placed a significant order with Boeing for 18 737-8 and 12 737-10 jets, with options for 30 more. This move aims to modernise Malaysia Airlines’ single-aisle fleet, ensuring greater efficiency and an enhanced travel experience.

With air travel in Southeast Asia rapidly expanding, the region’s aircraft fleet is expected to grow by nearly 250% over the next two decades. The addition of these Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will help Malaysia Airlines meet rising demand while reducing fuel consumption and emissions by 20%.

Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG, highlighted the investment’s importance: “These new aircraft will enhance our fleet’s efficiency, expand seating capacity, and elevate the inflight experience, keeping our passengers’ needs at the forefront.”

Malaysia Airlines has relied on the Boeing 737 for nearly 60 years, first introducing the 737-100 in 1969. The airline’s continued trust in Boeing underscores the aircraft’s reliability and performance.

Dr Brendan Nelson AO, President of Boeing Global, expressed pride in this long-standing partnership: “Today’s announcement strengthens our collaboration with Malaysia and highlights our commitment to the country’s aerospace sector.”

With over 50 Boeing 737 jets already in its fleet, Malaysia Airlines will benefit from the operational flexibility and superior economics of the 737-8 and 737-10 models. The airline is positioning itself to serve the region’s growing number of passengers efficiently and sustainably.
