Uzbekistan Airways orders up to 22 Boeing 787s

Uzbekistan Airways places its largest-ever order with Boeing: 14 firm 787‑9s plus options for eight more.

Uzbekistan Airways has placed its largest order in history with Boeing, committing to acquire up to 22 Dreamliners, including 14 firm orders and options for 8 additional aircraft. The deal was unveiled during a ceremony in New York, where President Shavkat Mirziyoyev joined representatives from the airline and Boeing.

The airline’s chairman, Shukhrat Khudaikulov, said: “The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family has proven to be the cornerstone of our long‑haul operations. With this new contract, we are further strengthening both our airline’s and our nation’s position as a leading aviation hub in Central Asia, while providing our passengers with greater global connectivity. This step reaffirms our ambitions and strategic commitment to sustainable growth.” Boeing’s Brad McMullen added: “We value our nearly 30‑year partnership with Uzbekistan Airways … With its fuel efficiency and operational flexibility, the 787 Dreamliner will help Uzbekistan Airways expand into new markets, connecting more travelers to their rich culture.”

The new 787‑9s will modernise Uzbekistan’s widebody fleet, replacing older models and enabling longer-range international services. With these jets, Uzbekistan Airways aims to expand routes to the U.S. and other destinations across Europe, Asia and beyond.

In parallel, Boeing and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to explore development of the country’s aviation infrastructure and ecosystem. This move suggests the order is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Uzbekistan’s aviation sector beyond aircraft procurement.
