Turkish Airlines to order up to 75 Boeing 787s and more 737 MAX jets

Turkish Airlines has committed to a large Boeing deal for up to 75 Dreamliners and further MAX jets, marking a major step in fleet modernisation.

Turkish Airlines has announced a major new aircraft commitment with Boeing: up to 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, of which 50 are firm orders and 25 are options, as well as additional Boeing 737‑8/10 MAX jets, with 100 firm and 50 optional units. The Dreamliner deliveries are expected between 2029 and 2034.

Turkish stated that “with these orders, our entire fleet is targeted to consist of new‑generation aircraft by 2035, thereby strengthening operational efficiency and supporting an average annual growth rate of around 6 %.” They also noted that the 737 MAX orders are contingent on final negotiations with engine supplier CFM International.

The deal is being framed as part of a broader strategic push, especially in the context of Turkish Airlines’ ambitious growth plans and its mix of Airbus and Boeing procurement strategies. Observers note that engine terms, maintenance contracts, and timing will likely be key determinants in how much of the optional volume becomes firm.

This announcement represents one of the largest long‑term purchase commitments from a Middle Eastern carrier in recent years, reinforcing Boeing’s presence in a region where competition from Airbus is intense. For Turkish, it’s also an opportunity to modernise aging widebody assets, expand international reach, and lock in capacity for future growth.
